The Schwinn 240 is a recumbent exercise bike, which means the rider can place themselves in a laid-back reclining position. Riders choose this type of bike for ergonomic reasons, such as weight distribution and more support for the back and buttocks. Some people with back injuries find that this bike is one of the only ways that they can comfortably exercise aerobically.
Trainers have said that a recumbent stationary bike, like the Schwinn 240, can burn as much as 1000 calories per hour, however, the amount of calories burned depends on the intensity of the routine. This fact, and the fact that the back is supported by the reclining seat, make the Schwinn 240 very popular indeed! The perimeter weighted flywheel helps you get a true road feel with all your workouts. It’s hard enough for some people to exercise, so being able to do so with comfort has been a big selling point for this bike.

What Are Schwinn 240 Customers Saying About Their Bikes?
“I did extensive research before I bought this bike. I’ve ridden it for about ten hours since assembly and am simply delight with it. I am a good mechanic and assembled it by myself in about three hours.”
“I purchased this bike over a month ago. It has been fantastic. I am a 6ft 4in, 220 lb man and this machine accommodates me perfectly. It has unbelievable resistance levels. I once was a 600 lb squatter and this machine can exhaust my legs. I would recommend to anyone wanting a quality machine at a good price.”
“I have been a runner for over 20 years and a recent ankle injury has me on bike exercise only. After spending a week on a Precor recumbent bike at my hotel while on vacation, I was worried about coming down from the $3,000 price range bike I was spoiled to using. After having the Schwinn 240 just over two weeks, and logging in more than 200 miles, I could not be more satisfied with my purchase. This bike rivals the workout of the Precor and is actually more quiet.”
What Are Schwinn 240 Customers Not Liking About Their Bikes?
“The text regarding the programming of a new user is unsatisfactory, confusing, and does not effectively communicate to a reader. The serial number(for registering) is located on the bottom of the front stabilizer, so record it before you assemble the bike.”
“After a lot of research we bought the Schwinn 240 for our family. We got it assembles in about an hour. After a few minutes of riding it my rear hurt from the seat. Also, the back seemed to lean back way too far and was not adjustable. I tried the bike several times and was very unhappy with how uncomfortable the seat was. My back and rear would begin to hurt before my legs did.”
See More Customer Reviews as Amazon“I have owned this machine over 6 months. I feel it is a piece of cheap crap. It will suddenly lose resistance in the middle of exercise. I often have to power on and off a few times to make it work again. Customer service was rude and unwilling to help.”
Summary of The Schwinn 240 Recumbent Exercise Bike
Pluses for this Schwinn recumbent exercise bike are the padded seat that is ergonomically made for more comfort, and the 16 levels of resistance. It appears that the Schwinn 240 can perform as well as those more expensive exercise bikes, and give you a great workout.
The downside of this machine is that it takes a while to assemble, and some people had trouble with customer service. As a whole, out of over 210 customer reviews looked at, only 15 customers were not completely satisfied. It is plain to see that the Schwinn 240 recumbent exercise bike is one bike that has followed through on it’s promise to consumers.

This review may be updated as more information becomes available. We work hard to include as much up-to-date information as we can in all our reviews, including our Schwinn 240 review.

So I bought this bike despite a couple of reservations from some pretty bad reviews, but I gotta say that after riding it for an hour every day for the last 2 weeks that the Schwinn 240 is fantastic. Seriously people – don’t let the bad reviews scare you. there are so many more good reviews of this bike than there are bad ones. I’d give it 5 stars if there was a star rating thingy.
Excellent to hear, James!
My father recently picked this bike up for several reasons, the biggest two were price, and my opinion on a good stationary bike for his injured back. He pretty much had your initial reservations as well – he said that he wasn’t sure about it until he had it home and set up, and now he loves it!

I hadf a stroke, and after the stroke we bought one, I have over 900 miles on it in about 11 months.
Bill, it’s wonderful to hear that you have made so many ‘strides’ since your stroke! Keep up the excellent work!

This thing does not work. Received several days ago. Resistance only works intermittently. Pedal forever and the reisistence does not increase. Increase the resistence setting all the way to 16 and there is no difference. Called customer service, which sent a replacement cable; received three days later. Managed to make it work one time after replacing the cable. Then stopped working again. Now can’t get it to change resistance at all.
Very disappointed. Now have to go through the return/replacement hassle.
Hi James,
I’m sorry to hear you didn’t have any luck getting this bike working for you. It’s never fun getting a defective product.
Thanks for stopping by and letting us know what your experience was.

Its a great bike. It was easy to assemble and the controls are very user friendly. I have back issues and have used recumbent bikes in physical therapy and this will work as my at home continued therapy.
